Calle Carnicería Vieja is one of the seven original streets that form the heart of Bilbao's Old Town, known locally as the Casco Viejo. You can identify it as part of the dense, medieval network of narrow thoroughfares that run parallel to the river. The street earned its name, which translates to Old Butcher's, because it housed the city’s first municipal slaughterhouse and meat market during the medieval period.
