The Arriaga Theater is marked by its curved-convex facade of stone, featuring three levels of arched windows and balconies topped with small domed turrets. Built in eighteen ninety by architect Joaquín Rucoba, the building stands as a prominent example of neo-baroque design in the heart of Bilbao. It takes its name from Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga, a local musical prodigy who died in Paris at only nineteen years old and earned the nickname the Spanish Mozart.
