Little St Mary's Church

Little St Mary's Church, located on Trumpington Street, is distinguished by its small bell turret and the proximity of its north-west corner to the remains of a tower from an earlier church. Originally known as St Peter-without-Trumpington Gate, the building stands on a site that has hosted worship since the twelfth century. In the late thirteenth century, the church became the college chapel for Peterhouse, the first college of Cambridge University. When the medieval structure decayed, Peterhouse rebuilt it between thirteen forty and thirteen fifty-two, rededicating it to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
