Gambier Terrace

Gambier Terrace is a row of nineteenth-century Georgian houses that faces the sprawling grounds of Saint James's Mount and the Liverpool Cathedral. Built between eighteen thirty-two and eighteen thirty-seven and named for Admiral James Gambier, these grand homes were intended to house the city's wealthiest merchant families. Construction stalled during the economic downturn of eighteen thirty-seven, leaving the row with a mix of original designs and later, simpler additions.
