The Albany Building Liverpool

The Albany Building on Old Hall Street is a sandstone structure defined by its eleven-bay facade and a central, open-air courtyard. Built in eighteen fifty-six, it served as a headquarters for cotton brokers, who required that central quadrangle to inspect the quality of their samples under natural light. Banker and racehorse owner Richard Naylor commissioned the building, tasking architect J. K. Colling with creating a sophisticated office environment that also housed warehousing in the basement.
