The Bluecoat

The Bluecoat is recognizable by its H-shaped brick facade and a central pediment containing a clock with only an hour hand. It is the oldest surviving building in Liverpool’s city center, dating back to seventeen seventeen. Originally constructed as a charity school for orphaned and destitute children by master mariner Bryan Blundell and Reverend Robert Styth, the building functioned for nearly two centuries as a place where students learned to read, write, and cast accounts before entering local trades.
