George's Dock Building

historic

The George's Dock Building stands as a great, white Art Deco slab of Portland stone, distinguished by a central angular ventilation shaft that rises like an obelisk above the Liverpool waterfront. Designed by architect Herbert James Rowse and completed in nineteen thirty-four, this structure serves as the primary ventilation and control station for the Queensway Tunnel, the first road tunnel built beneath the River Mersey.
