The Martins Bank Building on Water Street is a seven-story classical structure clad in Portland stone, recognizable by the nine-foot bronze doors at its main entrance. Opened in nineteen thirty-two, it was designed by local architect Herbert James Rowse as the headquarters for Martins Bank. The exterior features ornate carvings of Neptunes, dolphins, and Liver birds, while the interior was built with a steel frame and embellished with marble and intricate plasterwork.
