Maritime Museum

The Maritime Museum occupies a massive, rectangular warehouse built of brick and stone at the Royal Albert Dock. Designed by dock engineer Jesse Hartley and completed in eighteen forty-seven, the building was once a secure store for high-value imports like tea, silk, and spirits. It holds the distinction of being part of Britain's first fireproof warehouse complex, constructed without the use of timber to protect the cargo within.
