Albion House is identified by its alternating horizontal bands of white Portland stone and red brick, a striking pattern that earned it the local nickname of the streaky bacon building. Completed in eighteen ninety-eight, the structure served as the global headquarters for the White Star Line, the shipping company that registered the RMS Titanic in Liverpool. Its architects, Richard Norman Shaw and J. Francis Doyle, designed the office to reflect the company's maritime power during the city's peak as an international port.
