The Queensway Tunnel is a road tunnel running under the River Mersey, linking Liverpool to Birkenhead. It is distinguished by the massive, Art Deco ventilation towers that rise above its entrances, including the prominent building near the Pier Head and the Liver Building. Opened by King George the Fifth on July eighteen, nineteen thirty-four, the tunnel was at that time the longest road tunnel in the world.
