Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral

The Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King is recognizable by its circular form and the sixteen concrete ribs that rise to support a massive, crown-like lantern. Standing on Brownlow Hill, the structure occupies a site originally purchased in nineteen thirty for a far more traditional, monumental design by Sir Edwin Lutyens. That initial project, intended to be the second-largest church in the world, was halted by the Second World War with only the crypt completed.
