Steble Fountain

The Steble Fountain stands on William Brown Street as an ornate, multi-tiered cast iron structure, crowned by statues of four marine deities: Neptune, Amphitrite, Acis, and Galatea. It was donated to the city by Lieutenant Colonel Richard Fell Steble, a former Mayor of Liverpool, who provided one thousand pounds to transform what was then an undeveloped, debris-strewn patch of ground into this public monument. Designed by the French artist Michel Joseph Napoléon Liénard, the fountain was unveiled in eighteen seventy-nine.
