White Horse

The White Horse on Broad Street is easily identified by how it is squeezed into the narrow gap between the buildings of the Blackwell’s bookshop. This tiny, sixteenth-century structure is widely considered the smallest pub in Oxford. Its front facade, which dates to the eighteenth century, hides a history of shifting names and owners, having operated at different times as The Mermaid and The Jolly Volunteer before settling on its current name in the eighteen thirties.
