Horton Plaza Historic Park is defined by the Broadway Fountain, a centerpiece designed by Irving Gill and completed in nineteen ten. The fountain, modeled after the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates in Athens, features a frieze inscribed with the words Broadway Fountain for the People. This plaza, nestled at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Broadway, originated in eighteen seventy when real estate developer Alonzo Horton cleared the land to provide a gathering space for guests at his nearby Horton House Hotel.
