Kansas City Barbeque is defined by a neon sign in the window that proclaims it the Top Gun Bar. Founded in nineteen eighty-three by Martin and Cindy Blair, the restaurant was a casual local spot long before the surrounding Marina District transformed into a busy tourist area. Its status changed unexpectedly when a location scout for Paramount Pictures stopped in for a beer and suggested the building to director Tony Scott. The restaurant subsequently served as the setting for pivotal moments in the nineteen eighty-six film, including the scene where characters Maverick and Goose perform Great Balls of Fire at an upright piano.
