Piazza Basilone

Piazza Basilone is a public square in San Diego’s Little Italy, identifiable by the bronze bust of United States Marine Gunnery Sergeant John Basilone that anchors its western edge. Established in two thousand three, the space functions as both a neighborhood gathering spot and a war memorial. It honors Basilone, a World War Two Medal of Honor recipient who died at the Battle of Iwo Jima, alongside the local men from the community who lost their lives in twentieth-century conflicts.
