San Diego Chinese Historical Museum

The San Diego Chinese Historical Museum occupies a distinct adobe mission-style building that was once a sanctuary for Chinese immigrants. Designed by architect Louis J. Gill, the nephew of the notable Irving Gill, this structure originally opened in nineteen twenty-seven as a Chinese mission where newcomers received English language instruction. For three decades, the site served as the Chinese Community Church before the congregation moved away, leaving the building to sit vacant for over twenty years.
