Frank Cresci Plaza

Frank Cresci Plaza is defined by the massive granite statue of Saint Francis of Assisi that rises from its center. Carved by the Italian sculptor Beniamino Bufano between nineteen twenty-six and nineteen twenty-eight, the eighteen-foot-high figure was crafted in Paris from a twenty-ton block of stone. The statue, known as Saint Francis de la Varenne, remained in a French warehouse for twenty-seven years before it finally arrived in San Francisco in nineteen fifty-five.
