Pier 35 (1914)

Pier 35 extends into the bay as a long, industrial structure with a distinct bulkhead building that anchors it to the Embarcadero. Its foundational pilings were driven in nineteen fourteen, with the transit shed and bulkhead completed by nineteen sixteen. For eight decades, this pier acted as the primary cruise ship terminal for San Francisco, receiving grand liners from the Grace Line and Matson Line. It was the point of departure and arrival for generations of travelers, and in nineteen thirty-three, the pier was lengthened by seventy-eight feet to accommodate larger vessels.
