The Ulysses S. Grant memorial in Golden Gate Park consists of a granite pedestal that stands in the northeast corner of the Music Concourse, near the intersection of Hagiwara Tea Garden Drive. For more than a century, a bronze bust of the Civil War general and eighteenth president rested on this base. Sculpted by the German-born artist Rupert Schmid, the monument was commissioned in eighteen ninety-four following the death of the president.
