Chain of Lakes Meadow

Chain of Lakes Meadow is a quiet stretch of green nestled beside the water management system that defines this western edge of Golden Gate Park. The meadow takes its name from the trio of lakes—North, Middle, and South—that run in a line nearby. These lakes were once seasonal ponds trapped between natural sand dunes, but in the late eighteen nineties, park superintendent John McLaren incorporated them into a formal system to help stabilize the landscape.
