Spreckels Lake

Spreckels Lake is defined by its concrete edges, which distinguish it from the more naturalistic ponds found throughout Golden Gate Park. Completed in nineteen oh four, this artificial reservoir was engineered for a specific purpose: providing a dedicated basin for model boat enthusiasts. The San Francisco Model Yacht Club, founded in eighteen ninety-eight, had petitioned the city for a site to practice their craft away from the crowded waters of Blue Heron Lake, then known as Stow Lake.
