Holocaust Memorial at California Palace of the Legion of Honor

Eleven white, life-size human figures sit on a bare concrete platform, installed on the grassy incline near the Legion of Honor parking lot. Ten of these figures lie in a heap, while one solitary man stands behind a barbed-wire fence, his hand resting upon it. Created by artist George Segal and installed in nineteen eighty-four, this bronze monument is painted entirely white to maintain the ghostly texture of the original plaster casts.
