Fort Miley

Fort Miley is defined by the heavy concrete gun batteries that edge the perimeter of the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center. These fortifications remain as silent, earth-covered remnants of an era when this high, strategic headland served as the city's first line of defense. The United States Army acquired this land in eighteen ninety-three, displacing what had been the sprawling City Cemetery.
