Playland (San Francisco)

Playland at the Beach once occupied ten acres of Ocean Beach, stretching along the Great Highway between Balboa and Fulton Streets. Beginning as a collection of independent concessions in the late nineteenth century, the site became a San Francisco landmark under the management of the Whitney family, who consolidated the amusements into a seaside destination that drew thousands of visitors on weekends.
