Battery Lobos

Battery Lobos sits on the grounds of the former Fort Miley, a military reservation perched on the headland of Point Lobos. This site features reinforced concrete pads that once held six-inch naval guns, built during the summer of nineteen forty-two to protect the entrance to the Golden Gate. Unlike earlier, massive coastal defenses, this was a smaller, rapid-fire battery designed to cover submarine minefields outside the bay and prevent enemy minesweepers from clearing a path.
