A small, grey concrete marker stands near a bus shelter in the parking area for the Palace of the Legion of Honor. This unassuming post indicates the official western terminus of the Lincoln Highway, the first road built to span the United States from coast to coast. Conceived in nineteen twelve, the route stretched over three thousand miles from Times Square in New York City to this spot in San Francisco’s Lincoln Park.
