Black House (Church of Satan)

The site at six one one four California Street was once home to an unassuming Victorian residence known as the Black House. Painted a deep, striking black, the building gained notoriety as the worldwide headquarters of the Church of Satan, established here by Anton LaVey on April thirtieth, nineteen sixty-six. It functioned as both a family home and a theater for occult rituals that drew intense media coverage, including the famous nineteen sixty-seven satanic baptism of LaVey’s daughter, Zeena.
