The Roald Amundsen Memorial is a twelve-foot stone shaft known as a bauta, carved from Norwegian granite. It features a relief of the explorer Roald Amundsen and has stood in the parking lot of the Beach Chalet since nineteen thirty. This monument marks the site where Amundsen’s ship, the Gjoa, rested in dry-dock for decades.
