Garfield Monument (San Francisco)

The Garfield Monument stands twenty-five feet tall on a prominent berm east of the Conservatory of Flowers. It is a central polished granite shaft topped by a life-size bronze statue of the twentieth president of the United States, James Garfield. At the base of the pedestal sits a bronze figure of Lady Liberty holding a broken sword and a wreath, a reference to the president's assassination in eighteen eighty-one.
