The University of San Francisco is anchored by a massive, Spanish Gothic Revival building that sits atop a rise known as Lone Mountain. This distinctive structure, with its square tower and pyramid-style roof, was completed in nineteen thirty-two for the San Francisco College for Women. The Jesuits acquired this property in nineteen seventy-eight, expanding their campus to fifty-five acres and creating what university officials once called their Louisiana Purchase.
