Miguel Hidalgo Statue

The bronze statue of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla stands within Mission Dolores Park, depicting the Catholic priest who initiated the Mexican War of Independence. Crafted by sculptor Juan F. Olaguibel, the figure was presented to the city of San Francisco by the Mexican community in nineteen sixty-two. The statue portrays the man often called the father of Mexican independence, who on September sixteenth, eighteen ten, issued his famous cry for freedom in the town of Dolores.
