The Tosca Cafe stands on Columbus Avenue, recognizable by its vintage exterior and the legacy of its century-old bar. Founded in nineteen nineteen by Italian immigrants Gesualdo Francesconi, Ugo Pieri, and Nando Pieri, the establishment opened just weeks before Prohibition began. To adapt to the new law, the partners used an imported Italian espresso machine to steam milk, which they mixed with brandy to create a signature, alcohol-spiked drink known as the House Cappuccino.
