The Palace of Fine Arts Theatre is identifiable by its setting within the only surviving structure of the nineteen fifteen Panama-Pacific International Exposition. While the surrounding Greco-Roman rotunda and colonnades were designed by architect Bernard Maybeck to evoke a decaying Roman ruin, the theater itself is a later addition to the site.
