The Roos House at thirty-five hundred Jackson Street stands out in Presidio Heights for its facade of red brick, a distinct departure from the wood-shingled homes common to the neighborhood. Built in nineteen oh nine, this three-story structure is the largest residence designed by architect Bernard Maybeck in San Francisco. It began as a wedding gift for Leon Roos and his bride, Elizabeth Leslie Meyerfeld, commissioned by Elizabeth’s father, Morris Meyerfeld, who was a partner in the Orpheum Theater Circuit.
