Presidio of San Francisco

The Presidio of San Francisco stands out for its hundreds of historic structures and dense, wooded landscape spread across the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula. This land served as a military post for three different nations, beginning when Spain established a fort here in seventeen seventy-six. It transitioned to Mexican control in eighteen twenty-two and finally to the United States Army in eighteen forty-six, remaining an active military installation until nineteen ninety-four.
