Battery Cranston

Battery Cranston sits along the coastal bluffs near the Golden Gate Bridge toll plaza, a relic of the Endicott era designed for seaward defense. Completed in eighteen ninety-seven, the battery housed two ten-inch guns mounted on disappearing carriages, capable of striking targets ten miles out to sea. These massive weapons remained hidden behind thick concrete embankments until the moment they were raised to fire, shielding both the crew and the machinery from incoming fire.
