Coyote Gulch (California)

Coyote Gulch is a coastal ravine carved by a freshwater creek that flows directly into the Pacific Ocean. Once hidden for nearly a century under layers of construction rubble, household waste, and toxic soil, this three-acre site was officially transformed into a natural habitat by the National Park Service. Its name commemorates the wild canines that were spotted nearby after the excavation began, prowling through the disturbed ground to hunt gophers that had been rousted from their burrows.
