The Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel occupies a full block along the sixteenth Street Mall and is identifiable by its repetitive grid of concrete panels. Originally constructed in nineteen sixty as the Denver Hilton, the building was a central piece of the Courthouse Square urban renewal project. Architect I. M. Pei designed the structure using cast stone panels fabricated in Salt Lake City, incorporating aggregate collected during the excavation of the site itself.
