Fourth Presbyterian Church is distinguished by its Gothic Revival architecture and dressed limestone facade, making it the oldest structure standing on North Michigan Avenue with the sole exception of the Chicago Water Tower. Dedicated in May nineteen fourteen, the building was designed by Ralph Adams Cram, a prominent Gothic architect, while the surrounding parish buildings and courtyard were the work of Chicago architect Howard Van Doren Shaw.
