Mr. Beef

Mr. Beef is marked by a large, recognizable white sign hanging above its entrance on Orleans Street. Established in nineteen seventy-nine by Joseph Zucchero and his brother Dominic, this no-frills sandwich stand has served as a fixture in the River North neighborhood for decades. The shop built its reputation on the Italian beef sandwich, a Chicago staple featuring thinly sliced roast beef seasoned with garlic, served on crusty bread, and topped with hot or sweet peppers.
