Matassa's Market

Matassa's Market sits on the corner of Dauphine and Saint Philip streets, identifiable by its presence as a traditional corner grocery in the heart of the French Quarter. Established in nineteen twenty-four by Giovanni John Matassa, a Sicilian immigrant, the store anchored a neighborhood then known as Little Palermo. For generations, this location functioned as a social hub for residents, providing daily provisions, deli meals, and, for a time, delivery by bicycle.
