Arthur Roger opened this gallery in nineteen seventy-eight on Magazine Street, operating out of a space his mother helped him secure by mortgaging her home in Chalmette. At the time, the local scene for contemporary art was small, but Roger committed himself to showcasing regional artists alongside national figures, eventually helping to build the reputation of New Orleans as a significant destination for modern work.
