The Japanese American Historical Plaza is marked by thirteen engraved basalt and granite stones that line the Willamette River within Tom McCall Waterfront Park. Dedicated in nineteen ninety, this site sits on the ground where Portland’s Japantown, or Nihonmachi, once thrived as a commercial and cultural center for Japanese immigrants before being dismantled by the forced relocation of its residents during the Second World War.
