Alley of Murals (Isaiah Zagar)

You are approaching a cluster of Philadelphia alleyways and streets defined by walls completely encrusted in glass bottles, bicycle wheels, handmade ceramic tiles, and thousands of mirror fragments. These vibrant, swirling mosaics were created by artist Isaiah Zagar, who began transforming the South Street neighborhood in the late nineteen sixties. After moving to the area with his wife Julia, Zagar spent more than five decades covering facades, courtyards, and narrow passages with these materials, eventually filling over two hundred public spaces across the city with his work.
