Hill-Physick House

The Hill-Physick House is the only free-standing Federal mansion remaining in Philadelphia’s Society Hill. Built in seventeen eighty-six as the residence of wealthy Madeira wine importer Henry Hill, the four-story brick structure stands apart from the interconnected rowhouses typical of the neighborhood. A distinctive architectural detail is the large, half-round fanlight window over the central front entrance, which was the largest of its kind in any Pennsylvania residence at the time of construction.
