The Wanamaker Building is a massive twelve-story granite structure that occupies an entire city block between Market and Chestnut Streets. Designed by architect Daniel H. Burnham and completed in nineteen eleven, it was constructed to house the flagship store of merchant John Wanamaker. The exterior is modeled after the town house of a Renaissance merchant, while the interior features a soaring marble Grand Court that once hosted thousands of shoppers.
