The City Watch House stands as a solid brick building on Russell Street, distinguished by the fact that its original interior remains complete in every respect. Built between nineteen oh seven and nineteen oh eight, it replaced a disused cell block of the adjacent Old Melbourne Gaol. For nearly a century, this facility operated as the city's central custody center for people arrested and awaiting trial.
