The Triumphal Arch in Innsbruck is marked by its split personality, featuring celebratory wedding reliefs on one side and solemn mourning symbols on the other. It stands at the southern end of Maria-Theresien-Straße on the former site of the city’s medieval southern gate. Constructed of Höttinger Breccia stone reclaimed from those demolished fortifications, the arch was originally planned in seventeen sixty-five to honor the marriage of Archduke Leopold, son of Empress Maria Theresa, to the Spanish princess Maria Luisa.
